Live Like Cash Gaudio Foundation Announces First Scholar Recipient
LYNCHBURG, VA — April 22, 2025 — The Live Like Cash Gaudio Foundation is proud to announce its first tuition assistance recipient for the 2025–2026 academic year: Max Spain, a seventh-grade student athlete at Liberty Christian Academy in Lynchburg, Virginia. Max plays both soccer and golf, and is the son of the late Mark Spain, a beloved WSET news anchor who passed away after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
“We are humbled to award this first scholarship to Max,” said Cash’s mother, Shannon Meyers. “When I called his mom, Lynita, there was an immediate bond in our shared grief. We cried together, both overwhelmed by a need being met, and the realization that it is only possible because of Cash’s impactful life, which moved people to donate. Our family is so grateful for the community’s support, and we take some comfort in helping others through Cash’s powerful legacy of faith and kindness. It’s especially meaningful to award this tuition assistance to Max, forever uniting the memories of Cash, and Mark Spain, who was so loved by the Lynchburg community, and always exhibited incredible positivity. We truly desire to “live like Cash” in everything we do.”
The Foundation, which recently received its full 501(c)(3) non-profit designation, has named several members to its founding board, including Shannon Bochette Meyers, Micah Gaudio, McKenna-Kate Gaudio, Stuart Whetsell, David Provost, and Savena Royal.
Savena Royal, the newest board member, organized the Gears for Gaudio car show in March. Hundreds of people attended and viewed 80 cars and motorcycles, while contributing financially to the Foundation’s mission and celebrating Cash’s life.
The Foundation is currently planning its signature fundraising event, the first annual Swing For Cash Golf Classic, which will be held on May 20, 2025, at London Downs Golf & Country Club. Team registration is near capacity, and sponsorship opportunities are still available. Visit CashGaudio.org/GOLF for more details.
“This tuition assistance is more than financial help—it’s a tribute to character, perseverance, and faith,” said Micah Gaudio, Cash’s father. “We want Cash’s memory to live on forever by helping student athletes who embody the same heart, humility, and dedication he demonstrated.”
The Live Like Cash Gaudio Foundation was established in memory of Cash Gaudio, who tragically lost his life on September 30, 2024, in a senseless act of random gun violence. Cash was 19 years old and known for his unwavering faith, love, kind heart, work ethic, humor, and entrepreneurial spirit. His impact on the communities of Lynchburg, Smith Mountain Lake, and Roanoke continues to inspire.
